TEXT | One of the most ingenious among the skilled, practical machinists in this community is Mr. Fred. J. Swaine, who for more than twenty years has been established in business, and in that time has executed considerable work in all branches of his trade, giving in every instance the best satisfaction. For the purposes of his business he occupies the fourth floor, 25x60 feet in area, of the building No. 207 Chestnut street, which is equipped with special machinery, operated by a 12 horse-power steam engine, while an ample force of skilled hands are kept constantly employed. Mr. Swaine builds all kinds of light machinery, fire machines, and makes a specialty of moulds, dies, sheet metal tools, etc., and gives his personal attention to repairing and jobbing, executing orders promptly on satisfactory terms. Although a resident of St. Louis upwards of a quarter of a century, Mr. Swaine is a native of England. He is a gentleman in middle life, and during his long residence and successful business career in this city has become well known and acquired a high reputation as a machinist and useful citizen. |
