TEXT | The Goelitz Bros. Candy Company of No. 419 North Main street, St. Louis, deserve prominent mention in this review, having, since their establishment in 1869, maintained a very high standing in the trade. They were incorporated in 1884 with a capital of $15,000, Mr. Gustave Goelitz, the founder, being president. Their premises consist of a substantial five-story brick building, provided with an elevator to each floor, and affording ample accommodation for the fine new machinery, the forty horse-power steam engine and the half hundred hands employed. All kinds of confectionery is made here, including chocolate creams, drops, almonds, etc., which are absolutely unexcelled for purity, evenness of make and delicacy of flavor. Sticks, caramels and all the staple varieties are also manufactured. The business is wholesale, and numbers its customers by hundreds and thousands in the city and throughout the whole of the West and South. Mr. Gustave Goelitz is a native of Germany, who came to St. Louis a quarter of a century ago. Mr. A. Goelitz, who holds the offices of secretary and treasurer, was born here. |
